About Vintage Frame

This is the one we reach for when the request is abstract. Vintage Frame keeps it simple, which is why it sits here rather than in the reserve pile. Only 1 person has saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's. No reviews either way, so the preview is doing all the work on this one. Credit goes to Almairatype Studio.

Botanical and animal work is judged at the edges, so zoom in and see whether the leaves and the fur are drawn or blurred. Put it to work on antique first. If it survives that, it will survive whatever you had in mind next. Spend the minute on the preview at full size — it is where you find out whether abstract was the description or the aspiration.

It answers to art, background, banner and border, and that spread of wording is worth noting: a file tagged this consistently usually behaves the way the preview suggests. What this shelf gets asked for is watercolor paintings, animal drawings, bird drawing, hibiscus flower drawing and flower drawings. That list is why these files are here and not some prettier ones. It is shelved with the rest of the botanical and animal illustrations, and that is the quickest way to see what else sits in the same register before you settle on this one. People after this usually search floral, botanical, flower, leaf and plant too, and the shelf is sorted so those all land in the same place.

How to use this file

  1. Download the set from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — brush sets arrive as .brushset for Procreate or .abr for Photoshop.
  2. Open the brush file on the iPad and it installs itself into a new set; in Photoshop, drag the .abr onto the canvas.
  3. Try every brush once on a scrap canvas and delete the ones you will not use — a bloated brush list slows you down more than it helps.
  4. Keep reference sheets at full size in a separate folder: downscaled references hide exactly the detail you needed them for.
