About Hand Drawn Frames, Banners & Ribbons

Ask for abstract and you get a hundred near-misses; Hand Drawn Frames, Banners & Ribbons is one of the few that answers the question as asked. Credit goes to shahtech50. With 36 saves it has barely been seen, and that is neither a good nor a bad sign on a catalogue this size. Nobody has reviewed it, which we do not hold against a new file — but it does mean the preview is the only honest evidence.

Reference line art is for practice, so clean unbroken outlines matter; a sketchy reference teaches you somebody else's shaky hand. Put it to work on background first. If it survives that, it will survive whatever you had in mind next. Before downloading, give the preview a full-size look and read the licence tab — two clicks, and they answer most of what the listing leaves unsaid.

If you came in looking for art, banner, black and border, you are in the right place — the listing carries all of those, which is the clearest sign the designer built it for that job rather than retitled it afterwards. Nearby you will see line art, outline, sketch, drawing and portrait, which is where to go if this one is nearly right but not quite. Put next to the usual requests here — drawing ideas, sketch ideas, flower drawing, drawing reference and anime drawing — this one covers the plain version of the job, which is the version people need most often. On this site it lives on the Line Art and References shelf, so it also turns up for people browsing line art and references rather than searching for it by name.

How to use this file

  1. Download the set from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — brush sets arrive as .brushset for Procreate or .abr for Photoshop.
  2. Open the brush file on the iPad and it installs itself into a new set; in Photoshop, drag the .abr onto the canvas.
  3. Try every brush once on a scrap canvas and delete the ones you will not use — a bloated brush list slows you down more than it helps.
  4. Keep reference sheets at full size in a separate folder: downscaled references hide exactly the detail you needed them for.
