About Space Suit Retro Astronaut

Most of what turns up under astronaut art needs work before it is usable. Space Suit Retro Astronaut is the version that does not. No reviews either way, so the preview is doing all the work on this one. Only 1 person has saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's. Suriya Fabica made it.

We keep it filed mentally under astronaut clipart, which is the use that needs the least adjusting afterwards. We look for a sheet with several angles of the same subject rather than one perfect pose — practice needs the awkward views too. Before downloading, give the preview a full-size look and read the licence tab — two clicks, and they answer most of what the listing leaves unsaid.

It answers to astronaut decor, astronaut illustration, astronaut portrait and astronaut print, and that spread of wording is worth noting: a file tagged this consistently usually behaves the way the preview suggests. The same shelf also answers to line art, outline, sketch, drawing and anatomy, so widen the search there before giving up on it. You will find it among the line art and references, sorted next to everything that does roughly the same job. Judged against the requests we see — drawing ideas, sketch ideas, flower drawing, drawing reference and anime drawing — this is a middle-of-the-road answer, and middle of the road is usually what the job needs.

How to use this file

  1. Download the set from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — brush sets arrive as .brushset for Procreate or .abr for Photoshop.
  2. Open the brush file on the iPad and it installs itself into a new set; in Photoshop, drag the .abr onto the canvas.
  3. Try every brush once on a scrap canvas and delete the ones you will not use — a bloated brush list slows you down more than it helps.
  4. Keep reference sheets at full size in a separate folder: downscaled references hide exactly the detail you needed them for.
