About DotMan ToolKit Vintage Comic Effects PS

DotMan ToolKit Vintage Comic Effects PS is one we kept when we last trimmed this shelf: it does its one job and does not ask for attention while doing it. The save count sits at 198, and a number that size usually means the file does what its preview promises. Unreviewed so far — read that as untested rather than as a verdict. The designer behind it is Thundr Co.

Use it where the file has to disappear behind the thing you are actually making. Whether it tiles matters more than whether it is pretty. A texture that cannot repeat leaves you cloning edges for an hour. Spend the minute on the preview at full size — it is where you find out whether textures and effects was the description or the aspiration.

The same shelf also answers to action, overlay, style, add-on and add on, so widen the search there before giving up on it. You will find it among the textures and effects, sorted next to everything that does roughly the same job. Most of the traffic on this shelf comes in on action poses reference drawing, tattoo style drawings, paper airplane drawing, manga style drawing and paper boat drawing, and we picked the files on it with those requests in mind rather than by browsing prettiest-first.

How to use this file

  1. Download the set from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — brush sets arrive as .brushset for Procreate or .abr for Photoshop.
  2. Open the brush file on the iPad and it installs itself into a new set; in Photoshop, drag the .abr onto the canvas.
  3. Try every brush once on a scrap canvas and delete the ones you will not use — a bloated brush list slows you down more than it helps.
  4. Keep reference sheets at full size in a separate folder: downscaled references hide exactly the detail you needed them for.
