About Butterfly Logo

What we like about Butterfly Logo is how little it tries to be everything — it does wings, and that is the job we wanted filled on the Botanical and Animal Illustrations shelf. With 1 saves it has barely been seen, and that is neither a good nor a bad sign on a catalogue this size. Unreviewed so far — read that as untested rather than as a verdict. It is rohady286's work.

The obvious job for it is fly, and obvious is right here — the file was built around that and it shows. Botanical and animal work is judged at the edges, so zoom in and see whether the leaves and the fur are drawn or blurred. Before downloading, give the preview a full-size look and read the licence tab — two clicks, and they answer most of what the listing leaves unsaid.

Type animal into the search above and this one comes back — the same file under four different habits of phrasing. It is shelved with the rest of the botanical and animal illustrations, and that is the quickest way to see what else sits in the same register before you settle on this one. The wording people arrive with is watercolor paintings, animal drawings, bird drawing, hibiscus flower drawing and flower drawings, and we would rather shelve for those requests than for how a thumbnail looks in a grid. The neighbouring searches are floral, botanical, flower, leaf and plant — worth a look if this particular file is close but not quite it.

How to use this file

  1. Download the set from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — brush sets arrive as .brushset for Procreate or .abr for Photoshop.
  2. Open the brush file on the iPad and it installs itself into a new set; in Photoshop, drag the .abr onto the canvas.
  3. Try every brush once on a scrap canvas and delete the ones you will not use — a bloated brush list slows you down more than it helps.
  4. Keep reference sheets at full size in a separate folder: downscaled references hide exactly the detail you needed them for.
