About Christmas Squirrel with Pine Cone

What we like about Christmas Squirrel with Pine Cone is how little it tries to be everything — it does aged paper, and that is the job we wanted filled on the Botanical and Animal Illustrations shelf. It comes from Sprout Mockups. No reviews either way, so the preview is doing all the work on this one. Only 1 person has saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's.

Botanical and animal work is judged at the edges, so zoom in and see whether the leaves and the fur are drawn or blurred. Put it to work on animal lover first. If it survives that, it will survive whatever you had in mind next. Before downloading, give the preview a full-size look and read the licence tab — two clicks, and they answer most of what the listing leaves unsaid.

The words on the listing are antique, canvas, card maker and christmas, and they are worth reading as a description rather than as tags. People after this usually search floral, botanical, flower, leaf and plant too, and the shelf is sorted so those all land in the same place. You will find it among the botanical and animal illustrations, sorted next to everything that does roughly the same job. Put next to the usual requests here — watercolor paintings, animal drawings, bird drawing, hibiscus flower drawing and flower drawings — this one covers the plain version of the job, which is the version people need most often.

How to use this file

  1. Download the set from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — brush sets arrive as .brushset for Procreate or .abr for Photoshop.
  2. Open the brush file on the iPad and it installs itself into a new set; in Photoshop, drag the .abr onto the canvas.
  3. Try every brush once on a scrap canvas and delete the ones you will not use — a bloated brush list slows you down more than it helps.
  4. Keep reference sheets at full size in a separate folder: downscaled references hide exactly the detail you needed them for.
