About Red Lionfish Watercolor

Red Lionfish Watercolor reads as ordinary in a list and holds up once it is open, which is the order we would rather have it. Only 5 people have saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's. Unreviewed so far — read that as untested rather than as a verdict. Credit goes to Enliven Designs.

We would keep it for the project where a file has to work on the first try. Botanical and animal art is judged on the edges: zoom into the preview and see whether the leaves and fur are drawn or blurred. Spend the minute on the preview at full size — it is where you find out whether botanical and animal illustrations was the description or the aspiration.

The searches that bring people to this shelf are watercolor paintings, animal drawings, bird drawing, hibiscus flower drawing and flower drawings — this one sits in the middle of that group rather than off to the side of it. On this site it lives on the Botanical and Animal Illustrations shelf, so it also turns up for people browsing botanical and animal illustrations rather than searching for it by name. The same shelf also answers to floral, flower, leaf, plant and bird, so widen the search there before giving up on it.

How to use this file

  1. Download the set from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — brush sets arrive as .brushset for Procreate or .abr for Photoshop.
  2. Open the brush file on the iPad and it installs itself into a new set; in Photoshop, drag the .abr onto the canvas.
  3. Try every brush once on a scrap canvas and delete the ones you will not use — a bloated brush list slows you down more than it helps.
  4. Keep reference sheets at full size in a separate folder: downscaled references hide exactly the detail you needed them for.
