About Rock Fish Watercolor

If you want the uncomplicated option, Rock Fish Watercolor is it — and most of the time the uncomplicated option is the one you end up using. Credit goes to Enliven Designs. No reviews either way, so the preview is doing all the work on this one. It sits at 6 saves — too few to call it popular, which is exactly why it is worth a look before everyone else finds it.

Botanical and animal work is judged at the edges, so zoom in and see whether the leaves and the fur are drawn or blurred. We would reach for it when the deadline matters more than the flourish. One thing we always do and you should too: open the preview full size. A thumbnail hides exactly the detail that decides whether botanical and animal illustrations is really what you are getting.

We keep it under Botanical and Animal Illustrations, which is where to look if you want the rest of the botanical and animal illustrations we have gone through. Most of the traffic on this shelf comes in on watercolor paintings, animal drawings, bird drawing, hibiscus flower drawing and flower drawings, and we picked the files on it with those requests in mind rather than by browsing prettiest-first. The same shelf also answers to floral, flower, leaf, plant and bird, so widen the search there before giving up on it.

How to use this file

  1. Download the set from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — brush sets arrive as .brushset for Procreate or .abr for Photoshop.
  2. Open the brush file on the iPad and it installs itself into a new set; in Photoshop, drag the .abr onto the canvas.
  3. Try every brush once on a scrap canvas and delete the ones you will not use — a bloated brush list slows you down more than it helps.
  4. Keep reference sheets at full size in a separate folder: downscaled references hide exactly the detail you needed them for.
