About Retro Arcade Illustrations
Most of what turns up under 8 bit needs work before it is usable. Retro Arcade Illustrations is the version that does not. It sits at 1 saves — too few to call it popular, which is exactly why it is worth a look before everyone else finds it. The designer behind it is sweetmangodsn. Unreviewed so far — read that as untested rather than as a verdict.
Put it to work on abstract first. If it survives that, it will survive whatever you had in mind next. A texture is only as good as the resolution it is supplied at, so we check that it covers the canvas we work on before we start layering with it. We check two things before any download like this: the preview at full size, and whether the licence covers what you plan to do with it.
Type arcade and art into the search above and this one comes back — the same file under four different habits of phrasing. Nearby you will see texture, effect, action, overlay and style, which is where to go if this one is nearly right but not quite. Judged against the requests we see — action poses reference drawing, tattoo style drawings, paper airplane drawing, manga style drawing and paper boat drawing — this is a middle-of-the-road answer, and middle of the road is usually what the job needs. Its home here is Textures and Effects — open that shelf if you would rather compare a few before choosing.

How to use this file
- Download the set from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — brush sets arrive as .brushset for Procreate or .abr for Photoshop.
- Open the brush file on the iPad and it installs itself into a new set; in Photoshop, drag the .abr onto the canvas.
- Try every brush once on a scrap canvas and delete the ones you will not use — a bloated brush list slows you down more than it helps.
- Keep reference sheets at full size in a separate folder: downscaled references hide exactly the detail you needed them for.
