About Polaroid Collections

Polaroid Collections is our background pick, and it is a pick rather than a default — we looked at the shelf twice before leaving it on. It comes from Raya Design. Only 10 people have saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's. Unreviewed so far — read that as untested rather than as a verdict.

Botanical and animal work is judged at the edges, so zoom in and see whether the leaves and the fur are drawn or blurred. If you want one use for it, take blank: that is the direction the designer clearly had in mind, and it is the one we would follow. One thing we always do and you should too: open the preview full size. A thumbnail hides exactly the detail that decides whether background is really what you are getting.

Filed as design, empty, flower and frame photography. Tags are a rough instrument, but a consistent set like that usually means the file is what it claims. The searches that bring people to this shelf are watercolor paintings, animal drawings, bird drawing, hibiscus flower drawing and flower drawings — this one sits in the middle of that group rather than off to the side of it. Nearby you will see floral, botanical, leaf, plant and bird, which is where to go if this one is nearly right but not quite. We filed it under Botanical and Animal Illustrations for the obvious reason, and the shelf is small enough to read end to end.

How to use this file

  1. Download the set from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — brush sets arrive as .brushset for Procreate or .abr for Photoshop.
  2. Open the brush file on the iPad and it installs itself into a new set; in Photoshop, drag the .abr onto the canvas.
  3. Try every brush once on a scrap canvas and delete the ones you will not use — a bloated brush list slows you down more than it helps.
  4. Keep reference sheets at full size in a separate folder: downscaled references hide exactly the detail you needed them for.
