About Father's Day Greeting Card, Vector Files

What we like about Father's Day Greeting Card, Vector Files is how little it tries to be everything — it does celebration, and that is the job we wanted filled on the Line Art and References shelf. Unreviewed so far — read that as untested rather than as a verdict. It is Yamurchik's work. It has gone unnoticed so far. We found it worth shelving anyway.

Reference line art is for practice, so clean unbroken outlines matter; a sketchy reference teaches you somebody else's shaky hand. The obvious job for it is dad, and obvious is right here — the file was built around that and it shows. Before downloading, give the preview a full-size look and read the licence tab — two clicks, and they answer most of what the listing leaves unsaid.

Filed as card, daddy, family and father. Tags are a rough instrument, but a consistent set like that usually means the file is what it claims. It is shelved with the rest of the line art and references, and that is the quickest way to see what else sits in the same register before you settle on this one. People after this usually search line art, outline, sketch, drawing and portrait too, and the shelf is sorted so those all land in the same place. The searches that bring people to this shelf are drawing ideas, sketch ideas, flower drawing, drawing reference and anime drawing — this one sits in the middle of that group rather than off to the side of it.

How to use this file

  1. Download the set from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — brush sets arrive as .brushset for Procreate or .abr for Photoshop.
  2. Open the brush file on the iPad and it installs itself into a new set; in Photoshop, drag the .abr onto the canvas.
  3. Try every brush once on a scrap canvas and delete the ones you will not use — a bloated brush list slows you down more than it helps.
  4. Keep reference sheets at full size in a separate folder: downscaled references hide exactly the detail you needed them for.
