About Minimalist Botanical Line Drawing

What we like about Minimalist Botanical Line Drawing is how little it tries to be everything — it does artwork, and that is the job we wanted filled on the Line Art and References shelf. 1 save means nobody has tested it for you. We still think it holds up. Nobody has reviewed it, which we do not hold against a new file — but it does mean the preview is the only honest evidence. Credit goes to SKShagor Barmon.

We would use it the way the listing hints — black and white — and that is also where we would start if you are trying it for the first time. Reference line art is for practice, so clean unbroken outlines matter; a sketchy reference teaches you somebody else's shaky hand. Open it big before you commit. At thumbnail size every file on this shelf looks equally good, which is the problem with thumbnails.

Search for botanical, bouquet, clip art and concepts and this is the file those words land on; they are all the same file, filed under whichever phrase you happened to type. People after this usually search line art, outline, sketch, portrait and anatomy too, and the shelf is sorted so those all land in the same place. You will find it among the line art and references, sorted next to everything that does roughly the same job. Most of the traffic on this shelf comes in on drawing ideas, sketch ideas, flower drawing, drawing reference and anime drawing, and we picked the files on it with those requests in mind rather than by browsing prettiest-first.

How to use this file

  1. Download the set from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — brush sets arrive as .brushset for Procreate or .abr for Photoshop.
  2. Open the brush file on the iPad and it installs itself into a new set; in Photoshop, drag the .abr onto the canvas.
  3. Try every brush once on a scrap canvas and delete the ones you will not use — a bloated brush list slows you down more than it helps.
  4. Keep reference sheets at full size in a separate folder: downscaled references hide exactly the detail you needed them for.
